How do you know that? In fact, I was watching that auction, I am a collector of early TVs and had planned to bid on it. When I noticed the auction had been cancelled, I emailed K***n to see when or if it would be relisted. He responded just hours ago stating he still had the set, but would now be taking offers privately. I don't agree with that, listing it on eBay and trying to sell it off eBay, so I told him I would pass on it. > This way he doesn't have to pay the ebay fees. What he did was > is in direct violoation of the ebay terms of service. That would indeed be the case, if that is what happened. Unfortunately we don't have the full story. I would have loved to see the auction go to it's normal ending, to see if my bid would have won the set, but now I'll never know. If he is a scoundrel, he is probably no worse than you making up stories about him and impersonating him on the internet. BTW, you posting his name on the internet was a violation of eBay's TOS also. More old TVs will come along, I'm not going to lose any sleep over this one. I suggest you get over it also. jim menning Article: 327830 of rec.antiques.radio+phono From: "Brenda Ann" Subject: Needed: Schematic for Guild Model 484 spice chest radio Date: Tue, 20 Dec 2005 10:48:58 +0900 Message-ID: Anyone got one? You can add some alcohol/rosin mix to the tuning shaft pulley to increase the friction. If that doesn't do it, you can also reduce the clock spring tension on the capacitor tuning shaft-- It's hidden behind the gear on the front of the tuning cap. Two screws will allow loosening the spring tension. Pete Article: 327839 of rec.antiques.radio+phono From: "Scott W. They always paint it as some kind of recent trend towards eliminating Christmas from public life. Wrong........! 30 years ago, the school I was attending decided to change the name of its December dance from the Merry Christmas dance to the Happy Holidays dance. The requests to change the name came not from liberals or the ACLU, but from very conservative members of the non-christian clergy who had their delicate religious sensibilities offended by the mere mention of the holiday that bears Christ's name in a public place. Most people thought it was a bit silly, but it was done, and no one really gave a poop about it after that. Folks, The whole tempest-in-a-teapot brouhaha that Fox is exploiting now came about because some folks just love getting their panties in a bunch about religion, insisting that their way is the only true path to God. In the current incendiary political climate it is quite easy for moral entrepeneurs and pundits to pump this "controversy" to absurdly ridiculous heights of paranoia, because they know that some people will believe almost anything they hear as long as it fits in with their political philosophy. I did, however, get the radio working (after undoing one obvious hack, a wire from the antenna was connected to the LO side of the tuner). The (main) problem ended up being that I had two 12BE6's to work with, and both of them were bad. :( I ended up robbing one out of a working radio on a whim and voila, the spice chest started working. I did end up having to replace the coupling capacitor between the 1st audio and output, and the 35W4 was also pretty much kaput, as when I cranked up the radio it would die out completely before coming back up to a very distorted full volume (at least I know the filters are good). So... add to my shopping list 2 12BE6's and 2 35W4's. Why is it that the tubes I have plenty of kicking around here (12AV6, 12BA6 and 50C5) are never the ones that I need for a project? :-/ Article: 327875 of rec.antiques.radio+phono From: "Brenda Ann" Subject: Re: Laugh Of The Day - Part 2 Date: Wed, 21 Dec 2005 08:36:49 +0900 Message-ID: References: "Brian Hill" wrote in message news:kH%pf.4513$Vr.715@fe06.lga... > > "Rune" wrote in message > news:CFNpf.14072$i1.1798@news-wrt-01.rdc-nyc.rr.com... >> It's back and I wasted a message to try to alert the lister that he had >> misjudged the age and value and might try looking at other listed radios: >> >> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6590273590 >> >> Got back a nasty reply that I didn't know squat about old radios, it was >> from the 50s, and if I didn't like it... >> >> So, it's not just a naive fool, it's a belligerent one. >> >> Mystery solved. >> >> Ray >> > > I told her/him that they got the decimal place wrong on their starting > bid. I am somewhat new to collecting and using antique radios...however, I do have a few that I've either fixed myself or had restored. Most are AM only sets. I really enjoy listening to them. However, in recent times the "powers that be" have chosen a front loading washer to replace an aged conventional unit. Trouble is, this washer uses a DC motor and some sort of solid state speed control that just absolutely trashes the majority of the AM band, at least as far as these old radios are concerned. I don't think this is the fault of the radios--most modern plug-in sets are also affected, though battery operated ones are a toss up. I've tried some line filters on both the radios and the washer to no avail. Now I'm not sure what to do. The washer is run fairly often as lots of laundry goes through it. Any thoughts? Solutions? It uses these un-obtanium Telefunken tubes it in. Some I have, some I'm bidding on and some I'm waiting for. However, I would also like to make some substitutions using adapter socket/base assemblies. Such being the case, does anyone here have some suggestions for the following tube types, and what the American substitutions for them might be? DAF11 DCH11 DF11 DL11 UY11 They are 1.4 volt filament tubes. (except for the rectifier, 50v) Alternatively, I could use 6.3 volt tubes, as they are all wired in parallel in the battery position. But I would prefer the 1.4 volt equivalents. Thanks Jeff -- RESTRICTED AREA. Anyone intruding shall immediately become subject to the jurisdiction of military law.
