People who garden and are interested in their homes generally don't have the inclination to flame, I believe. The messages are interesting and useful even to us Zone 2 people up north! The growing season is so short up here that the plants have adapted by growing faster ... trouble is that the rustling at night as the plants grow keeps us awake! I'll never forget the troubles we had one year with an exceptionally long growing season (3 weeks instead of the usual 2 weeks) combined with an unusually active pumpkin vine ... :-) This echo is truly an oasis of enjoyment to read ... if you'll excuse the expression! ;-) Thanks to everybody for keeping it alive. I'd like to see that start up again (the fact I'm hip-deep in 4-o'clock seeds has nothing to do with it *g*), but on a larger basis. Regular posts of supplies for free or trade invariably results in others posting for sale ads because the area starts to look like a For Sale are. Plus there are occassionally disputes. I don't want that to spill over or detract from the HOME-N-GRDN echo, so have ELISTed a new echo: SEEDSWAP - The Seed Exchange For user-to-user posts of seeds for trade or free ONLY. No catalogs, commercial entries, seeds for sale, solicitations, high postage/handling charges, or offers other than free or swap. Users are strongly encouraged to use netmail and common sense in the finalizing of any trade. This is envisioned as an extension of the Backboned HOME-N-GRDN echo, and indepth discussion of the growing requirements should take place in that echo if at all possible. SEEDSWAP will be backboned if interest and distribution warrant. What I envision is an electronic equivalent of the Seed Swap listings _Organic Gardening_ Magazine. Given the distribution of this echo, if even 1/10th of the sysops want to carry SEEDSWAP in addition to HOME-N-GRDN we will have it backboned in less than a month. For the first couple of months, I will help hub to cut down on the Long Dist.; (I'll also shamelessly try to get you to pick up CLASSICAL and BIRDING echos also distributed from here *grin*). If you're interested, please netmail me - or forward this message to your sysop (and ask politely. Sysops are busy people). If you hate the idea, or want to swap your seeds in here, let me know. --- Maximus 2.02 * Origin: SYSABEND CENTRAL (1:130/404.1) @PATH: 130/404 41 124/4115 1 396/1 3615/50 3641/1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (940) Tue 3 Jan 95 22:31 By: Kris Gock To: John Clary Re: Annual Color ---------------------------------------------------------------------- @MSGID: 1:273/203@fidonet.org 11977e31 JC>We planted Cosmos from seed this year and have been _very_ pleased.
