plants year after year? I have never heard of this before (I confess my rookie status freely) Our winters are pretty mild, with a number of days below freezing, but very few below 20 Farenheit. We planted a bunch of Roma tomatos and are just getting ready to have our first batch from them. Yummmm. I would just love to think that the same plants will be here year after year. Cissy's correct about Seed Savers from what I have seen. We are trying to cut out all optional expenditures in our lives, but Seed Savers will probably remain tops on our priorities. My experience is for the quality and variety of seeds offered by people (and with starting to save your own seeds) in Seed Savers you will actually save money over say buying commercially. It's kind of a Co-op thing (my goddess doesn't sound good American Capitalistic to me!) that will put you in mail contact with people doing the same thing as you. You and your household don't really need the insecticides added to our daily pollution already....... I agree try the Boric Acid (in sugar or something greasy depending on the type of ant) for the ant problem. Spiders are actually quite good, as long as you're not overrun with them. Our compromise in our old farmhouse was to sweep the ones out of the areas where we are all the time, and to allow them to flourish in deeper, darker corners and places like crawl space etc. We also try to move some we catch outdoors without destroying them as this is bad Karma (in our belief system) as all creatures are our relations and ancestors. I guess we try to create coexistence conditions that are tolerable to both us and them (exceptions in the house are things that tear it down i.e. termites). HG> Is this a BBS or something more? Thanks for the info. For the public, it is a BBS/Library. We monitor and search out environmental information, stats, data, reports, analysis or whatever that is relative to the environmental community. Users are welcome to log in and key word search by word/s and/or phrase/s most of the information stored on our system. We also maintain a library of PC files that environmentally related such as ozone, farming, weather, climate modeling programs. These are more designed for the professionals in mind. We also carry many of the FidoNet echos, environmental newsletters, and publish press releases for most groups and industry. Our system differs from most in that if for example you queried the EPA or NISTI databases for glyphosate, you would get small summaries of the product. If you queried our system, you would get the lab reports. In short, the data we try to provide is as accurate and from the source as possible. This lets the user read the information and make a decision based on the facts, not a brief summary. The biggest issue in our province right now is forestry. What we try to do is to provide the hard data; forest inventory, watershed inventory, water quality and the such relative to the issue. The same data that is used by government when they base their decisions on land use, forest permits and the like is provided for the user. I hope this helps answer your question.
