a hemp task force. (Just before Thanksgiving to look into alternative crops for tobacco. Potential uses include: fiber, biomass fuel conversion, paper pulp, and pharmacutials?(?). Kentucky is the ideal growing climate, and tobacco farmers have everything needed to grow and cure it. Kentucky was chosen to grow hemp for the war effort in 1940s, when the US actually issued hemp bases. --- * Origin: [via Psychotronic BBS = Durham, NC = 919-286-4542]The NDL (1:3641/1) @PATH: 3641/1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (231) Sat 10 Dec 94 3:50 By: Cyronwode To: All Re: Re: permaculturists in sierra foothills? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- @MSGID: 1:3641/223 0006b846 @PID GIGO+ sn 175 at psybbs vsn 0.99 pl1 From: cyronwode@aol.com (Cyronwode) @Subject: Re: permaculturists in sierra foothills? The matter at hand as I understand it is concerned with examining the viability of alternative crops, of which there are very many indeed. The immediate problem we appear to be having to cope with here, at the cost of good quality research into the _broad range_ of options, has nothing whatever to do with the life style of hippies but with this one-dimensional view propagated on the one hand very interestingly by people who appear to know a great deal about Cannabis without ever having gone into commercial fibre production, and on the other hand by their adversaries. With the rest of us cast into one side or another, but in the end only being targetted by both for daring to speak at all. Maybe people simply do not want to get sucked into that. How about we just get off this putative "prejudice" against hippies, and off this political agenda controlled and propagated by the psychedelics (again NOT known for the quality of their paper), aided and abetted no doubt by the lawyers with their Draft Bills and Action Alerts on behalf of a Free Society, and at this point at least get back onto something even remotely reminiscent of open scientific enquiry. Else, please do show us some fibre samples, a breakdown of production costs, market analysis, and an estimate of gross margins which might reasonably be expected for a commercial grower. That we might compare with, say, those for Hibiscus cannabinus. Thanks. --- * Origin: Psychotronic BBS (1:3641/1) @PATH: 3641/1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (233) Sat 10 Dec 94 21:09 By: David Hill To: All Re: Honoring of the Elders Pow Wow ---------------------------------------------------------------------- @MSGID: 1:3641/223 0006b855 @PID GIGO+ sn 175 at psybbs vsn 0.99 pl1 From: dhill@apple.com (David Hill) @Subject: Honoring of the Elders Pow Wow Date: 10 Dec 1994 21:09:43 GMT @Message-Id: All My Relations, Below is a letter the Tena Council sends out each year to help raise support for the Honoring of The Elders Gathering at Mt. Madonna County Park in Santa Clara County, California held June 10th and 11th. It seems that every year, it takes more and more effort to raise support for important events that try to keep alive the ceremonies and spirit of the Native American way. Please help. Also, please post this anywhere you think appropriate. Dear Friend Sensitive people across the Earth are struggling to maintain a spiritual life in an increasingly dark and hostile environment. The Tena Council is a group of Indian and non-Indian people devoted to keeping alive native spirituality for future generations. we respectfully ask for your help. Our Council supports weekly gatherings, the Big Mountain Sundance, hosts the California Bear Dance, and contributes to youth drum and dance groups, among other things. We also foster dialog between inner city gang members. Each year we organize a special event called ³The Honoring of the Elders Gathering². In itıs tenth year, this is a weekend Pow Wow held at Mt. Madonna County Park in June. As many as 4,000 people will come together to enjoy themselves in a traditional way without drugs or alcohol. Not only do we honor our elders with dances and presents, we teach our children to respect the preceeding generations. In so doing we participate in the interconnectedness of life. The Elders Gathering has become increasingly complex and costly since the first event in 1985. We need to pay for a park permit, sheriffıs patrol, liability insurance, portable toilets and more. The cost of sponsoring this event has become more than a group such as ours can bear. We can use monetary donations of any size. Your generosity will help to ensure the continuity of the gathering this year and for years to come... Please send any contributions to: Tena Council P.O. Box 1985 Hollister, CA. 95024 Or contact the Tena Council at: 408-638-2179 You may also email me for more information: dhill@apple.com -- "Boy, ya gots ta be smarter than the mosheenery" Jerry Hill "There's a Monster on the loose, it's got our head's into the noose.
