Project workers are now collecting information and preparing to make it freely available on the Internet. INTRODUCTION. Campus EarthNet continues the work of the Campus Earth Summit, which gathered delegates from 50 states and 20 countries at Yale University in February, 1994 to draft the Campus Blueprint for a Sustainable Future. The EarthNet is sponsored by the Heinz Family Foundation, and is organized by the Center for Environmental Citizenship in partnership with the Brown Is Green program at Brown University and the Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. INFORMATION COLLECTED ON CAMPUS EARTHNET. Campus EarthNet's mission is to search for and offer materials that will be tools for real work-any information that can help guide readers how to incorporate environmental issues into the curriculum or how to improve campus environmental practices. The EarthNet therefore aims to include the most detailed information available about existing programs, including working documents, lists, and diagrams, not simply brochures prepared for the general public. EXAMPLES. A given university might provide such materials as the brand names and bulk prices of energy-saving light bulbs which it uses, the syllabi for all courses addressing environmental issues, and the annual reports of the campus environmental center. Campus EarthNet can accomodate graphics, audio and video files, as well as text, allowing it to include materials such as blueprints for sustainable campus buildings and design. ORGANIZATION. Files in Campus EarthNet will be indexed by campus and by topic in branching trees of directories. Individual files will be cross-listed under all directories where they fit. WHO CAN CONTRIBUTE. Any person or organization, in or outside the campus community, is strongly encouraged to share relevant information with Campus EarthNet. HOW TO CONTRIBUTE (in order of preference) *Attach appropriate files to an e-mail message, and e-mail to ccsd@access.digex.net; OR *Mail Macintosh or IBM disk to Campus EarthNet at the Center for Environmental Citizenship; OR *Mail printed materials to the same address (loose 8.5"x11" sheets preferred); OR *Call the Center for Environmental Citizenship for further instructions. HOW TO USE CAMPUS EARTHNET. Campus EarthNet will soon be available over the World Wide Web, the newest and most versatile Internet information sharing system. WWW may be accessed using Mosaic, Lynx, or many other programs. If you are not familiar with WWW, ask a friend or computing assistant who is; email or call Campus EarthNet; or find a book on the Internet for help. Once you access WWW, the URL (address) of Campus EarthNet is http://netspace.students.brown.edu/environ/earthnet. When you reach the EarthNet, instructions will direct you to simple guides on how to use it.
