I would like to introduce a wonderful project that knows no
international boundaries!! It is called the Forest of Knowledge. Read on....
The Forest of Knowledge was begun in Ciudad de Victoria, in the
state of Tamaulipas, Mexico. With the aid of students worldwide, a forest
and an environmental library will be ultimately created. Here's how it
works: students in the US collect book with environmental/humanitarian
topics. Upon the receipt of each book, a tree will be planted in the state
of Tamaulipas. Each tree will bear the name of the book that was donated,
and each book will breifly describe the book-donor, the person who
planted the tree (a child), and the location of the tree. The first stage
of this project is the Book-a-Buck campaign. The students who collect the
books will ask for a dollar donation (this will help the
students who are collecting the books travel to Mexico to participate in
the tree-planting). In this manner, we will (hopefully) end up with two of
the greatest things: a forest and an international library of ecology!
The creator of this program is an inspiring man named Paul
Coleman. Among other things, Paul has been recognized for his 12,000
kilometer "Walk to Save the Amazon". Paul walked from Ontario, Canada to
the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro (June 1992). He's a great friend of
mine (without an e-mail address yet--that's whay I'm typing this for him!)
and a committed activist.
I don't think I did a flawless job of explaqining this. Ask me
questions aqnd suggest some additional ideas about
the project! If you would like to support and/ or participate in this
unique program,or you would like more information and answers, please
respond by e-mail to: cdunne@csn.org

Thanks for your time--we're waiting to hear from you!!!
