San Franciscos infamous Family Dog was the venue for Gaskins Monday Night Class where as many as 1000 people would regularly gather to hear him expound on life, love and peaceful revolution . In 1970, he and hundreds of like-minded compatriots, caravanned to Tennessee where they established The Farm. The commune has managed to survive and prosper during the past 25 years. Adapting to the changing times, The Farm has transformed from commune to community with a model free economy, committed to eco-justice. Over 60 private business ventures, collectives and cooperatives producing a host of earth friendly products and services thrive in this idyllic setting. Farm members have been instrumental in the creation of human service organizations such as Plenty focusing on international relief, The Natural Rights Center, a civil rights think tank, The Nashville Tennessee Victims Reconciliation Program and The Eco Village in Russia. To meet the needs of their own community, The Farm developed a cradle to death primary health care system, which has gained international recognition for its work in the area of midwifery. It is this continued interest in sustainability that gave rise to Gaskins newest undertaking, Rosinante . The 100 acre community will be a respite for old folks, expectant parents and newborns, who by living together in the moment will form unique bonds that will support them through the natural birth and death experience.
