Undernetiquette and policies ============================ (i) Undernet opers are a helpful friendly lot. We do not support the policy "we don't get paid to maintain this shit and you are a lamer so f*** off". Yes, a person may be doing something wrong, but we explain how things work to him rather than abusing him cos he's doing something wrong. As an oper you are expected to help a user whenever possible, which does not mean that you write his bot script for him :) (ii) Remote bots on servers will not be allowed unless the closest server is down. Bot policies are framed by individual server admins for their server (iii) Squits for channel ops are STRICTLY forbidden ( although TSA will make this rule obsolete :)) ). (iv) Kills will be logged and abusive kills are forbidden. (I know that whizzard logs kills. I guess it would be a good practice for us to go thru kill logs each week, and even formulate a kill policy). (v) You are expected to be connected to your primary server when on the Undernet. Do not route thru secondary links unless unavoidable. (vi) If you are being commissioned as a hub server, you are expected to be willing to "de-hubbify" in the best interests of the Undernet if routing decisions so ordain it. Unlike the EFnet, the Undernet does not believe that being a "hub" carries much significance. This in turn keeps out the "power struggle" which you see often on the EFnet (vii) The Undernet is apolitical, and we are a big friendly family. Yes we do have occassional tiffs, but we get over them quickly (hey, after all we are friends! :)) and try to work things out rather than abuse one another. (viii) Undernet opers are expected to be on the Undernet whenever they are on the EFnet. (ix) When rerouting, you are expected to announce this over #wasteland and send a message to all affected users on your server. (x) The wastelanders mailing list is NOT a "flame fest". We try to do things together, not against one another. (xi) You are expected to attend any meetings agreed to by others. :) Comments on this welcome! :) I think (viii) is something we ought to think of as a moral responsibility. What's the use of running an Undernet server or having an O line on it, if u aren't committed to participating in the Undernet?
