Our primary motivation in doing so is in keeping with the community spirit of DECUS that allows such efforts to be shared without costly duplication of effort. It must be emphasized that sale or distribution for profit of any part of this distribution kit would be countered by legal action on the part of the University. Our secondary motivation is more selfish. We would like to get enough users interested in the system in the hope that one of two things may happen: .skip 2 (a) DEC will eventually realize that a market exists for such a product and decide to support it themselves; or .skip 2 (b) A strong enough user base will evolve to make practical the continued development of the product by user interaction through the RT-11 SIG. .skip 2 Tom Provost is acting as the distributor of the system in the U.S. I would suggest that if any of the recipients of this kit are interested in forming an "RT/RSX SIG" that they relay this desire on to Tom, who in turn can contact me. .skip 3 .NOFILL G.G. Bernstein Biomedical Engineering Unit McGill University Montreal, Canada .FILL .page A) DISTRIBUTION TAPE FORMAT .skip 2 The distribution tape consists of a set of files which allow the direct installation of the logical or virtual system. Also included are all the files necessary to rebuild both the RSX boot tasks and RT-11 executive and drivers. An annotated directory of the tape is shown on the following pages. Files delineated with the '*' character are RT-11 files. After the distribution tape is PIP'ed to to the RSX disk, these files should then be FLX'ed to an RT-11 device and then deleted from the RSX disk. .skip 2 It should be noted that the virtual file, 'VIRK05.VIR' is contained on the distribution tape for users who wish to run the virtual system. Within this file are several of the RT-11 files also included individually on the distribution tape. These have been included for users who wish to do further development of the system (e.g. adding a driver) using the system under RSX for the development. Files also delineated by a '_#' are contained within the virtual file as well. Files delineated by a '%' may be deleted from the virtual file if no development work under the emulator is planned. .page .nofill DISTRIBUTION MAGTAPE FILES ========================== VIRK05.VIR Virtual file containing runnable virtual system RTVASM.CMD Command file for asssembling 16K virtual boot source
