ASSIGN DEVICE The general format of the Assign Device command is: ASN ppnn:=llnn:[/switch] ! To create an assignment ASN [/switch] ! To display all assignments ASN =[llnn:][/switch] ! Delete one (all) assignments where ppnn: is the PHYSICAL device name (e.g. DLn: or TTn:) and llnn: is the LOGICAL device name, (e.g. SP: or SY:) where /switches include GBL, LOGIN and TERM. For additional information on ASN switches, type: HELP ASN Switch Note that a user must be privileged to use the ASN switches. 2 /GBL #SWITCH 2 /LOGIN #SWITCH 2 /TERM #SWITCH 2 SWITCH ASSIGN DEVICE SWITCHES A user must be privileged to use any of the ASN switches. Appending a /GBL keyword to an assign command causes the assignment to apply to all terminals, displays all global assignments, or removes a global assignment. Appending a /LOGIN keyword to an assign command causes the specified assignment to become effective for the issuing terminal when that terminal logs in, displays login assignments for the issuing terminal, or deletes a login assignment. Appending the keywords /LOGIN/TERM=ttnn: to an assign command causes that command to apply to the login assignments for terminal ttnn:. The assignments for that terminal can be created, displayed, or deleted. Appending a /TERM=ttnn: keyword to an assign command causes that command to apply to the local assignments for the terminal ttnn:. The user's local assignments on that terminal may be created, deleted, or displayed.
