The ASSIGN command defines, deletes, or displays logical device assignments. Logical device assignments associate logical names with physical devices, pseudo devices, or other logical devices. The general format of the ASSIGN command is: ASN ppnn:=llnn:[/keyword(s)] ! To create an assignment ASN [/keyword(s)] ! To display all assignments ASN =[llnn:][/keyword(s)] ! Delete one (all) assignments All keywords are privileged options. For more information type: HELP ASN GBL HELP ASN LOGIN HELP ASN TERM 2 GBL Appending a /GBL keyword to an assign command causes the assignment to apply to all terminals, displays all global assignments, or removes a global assignment. 2 LOGIN Appending a /LOGIN keyword to an assign command causes the specified assignment to become effective for the issuing terminal when that terminal logs in, displays login assignments for the issuing terminal, or deletes a login assignment. TERM is a qualifier for LOGIN. Type HELP ASN LOGIN TERM for more information. 3 TERM Appending the keywords /LOGIN/TERM=TTnn: to an assign command causes that command to apply to the login assignments for terminal TTnn:. The assignments for that terminal can be created, displayed, or deleted. 2 TERM Appending a /TERM=TTnn: keyword to an assign command causes that command to apply to the local assignments for the terminal TTnn:. The user's local assignments on that terminal may be created, deleted, or displayed.
