PIP performs Files-11 file manipulation functions, such as copying, transferring, and renaming files. The following switches are supported by PIP: /AP Append input file to output file /BL:n Allocate contiguous block number (see HELP PIP COPY) /BS:n Define magnetic tape blocksize /CD Preserve creation date on file copy /CO Output file is to be contiguous (see HELP PIP COPY) /DD Specify date restrictions for file searches /DE Delete files /DF Set default device and/or UFD for subsequent commands /EN Create secondary directory entry for file /EOF:n:m Set EOF marker for file /EX Exclude a specified set of files during file searches /FO Output file owner to be same as input file (see HELP PIP COPY, /AP, /PR, /UF, or /UP) /FR Determine free block count for disk /FU List directory in full format /ID Identify PIP version /LD List files deleted (see HELP PIP /DE or /PU) /LI List directory; subswitches are /BR, /FU[:n[.]], and /TB /ME Create a single file from two or more existing files /NM Suppress certain PIP error messages /NV Set new output file version (see HELP PIP COPY or /EN) /PR Alter file protection; subswitches are /SY, /OW, /GR, and /WO /PU:n Purge to the specified number of contiguous copies /RM Remove directory entry for a file /RE Rename input file to output name /RW Rewind tape /SB Set span blocks attribute in output file /SD Selectively delete files /SP Specify list of files to be printed /SR Allow shared reading /SU Supersede output version /TB List total blocks used/allocated /TD Restrict file seaches to files created on current day /TR Truncate file /UF Create UFD on output volume to match input file /UN Unlock file /UP Update file contents More than one PIP command can be specified in one line. To separate each command, use the ampersand character (&). Type HELP PIP COPY for information on the default copy operation. Type HELP PIP for more information on each switch. Type HELP PIP WILDCARDS for information on wildcard character support. 2 AP APPEND outfile[/FO]=infile[s]/AP[/FO] Opens an existing file (outfile) and appends the input file(s) to the end of it. (/FO is the file owner subswitch.) The parameters that PIP allows are: outfile - explicit file name and type infile - explicit file parameters; wildcard by default /FO - file ownership is infile UFD; without /FO, ownership is the current UIC 2 BS BLOCKSIZE outfile/[BS:n]=infile(s)/[BS:n] Defines the block size for 7- and 9-track magnetic tapes. Note that /BS does not have to be specified for input files from magnetic tapes. PIP automatically determines the block size. 2 COPY COPY outfile[s]=infile[s]/subswitches Creates a copy of a file on the same or another volume. The paramaters that PIP allows are: outfile - if filename.type;version are null or all wildcards, input parameters are preserved unless overruled by /NV or /SU; if filename, type, or version is defined, none can be a wildcard, and only one input file can be specified infile - if filename.type;version are all null, the default is *.*;* /BL:n[.] - specifies number of contiguous blocks for output file where n is an octal or decimal (.) value /CO or /NOCO - contiguous or noncontiguous output file /FO - see HELP PIP /AP /NV - forces output version number of copied file to be one greater than the current highest version /SU - creates a new file having the same file name, type, and version to replace outfile 2 CD CREATION DATE outfile/CD=infile Gives the output file the creation date of the input file rather than the date of the file transfer. (This switch cannot be used with /ME nor with any MT:-type magnetic tape device.) 2 DD DEFAULT DATE /DD:startdate:enddate Restricts file searches to files created during a specified period of time. Startdate and enddate must be specified in the form dd-mon-yy. A wildcard (*) may be substituted for startdate or enddate to specify that there is no restriction for that argument. 2 DF DEFAULT ddnn:[g,m]/DF Changes the default device and/or UFD for the current task. (This switch does not change protection privileges.) To eliminate these defaults, specify /DF without a device or UFD specification. 2 DE DELETE infile(s)/DE[/LD] Deletes the specified files. The /LD subswitch lists the files that PIP deletes. The version number must be explicit or a wildcard (*). 2 EOF END-OF-FILE infile(s)/EOF[:block:byte] Specifies the end-of-file pointers for a file. If the block and byte values are not specified, the end-of-file pointers are moved to the end of the allocated area. 2 EN ENTER outfile=infile(s)/EN[/NV] Enters a synonym for a file in a directory with an option to force the version number of the file being entered into the directory to be one greater than the latest version of the file. The parameters that PIP allows are: outfile - filename, type, or version can be explicit, wild (*), or null; wild and null fields default to the corresponding fields in the input file specification infile - filename, type, and version default to *.*;* /NV - see HELP PIP COPY 2 EXCLUDE FILE EXCLUSION filespec/EX Excludes one file specification's worth of files during file searches. Any field in the file specification can be excluded. However, the version number must be explicit and cannot be ;0 or ;-1. To eliminate file exclusion, specify /EX without a file specification. 2 FI FILE IDENTITY outfile=/FI:filenumber:sequencenumber Accesses a file by its file identification number (file-ID). 2 FO FILE OWNERSHIP The /FO subswitch allows the specification of the output file owner. For more information on using /FO, type HELP PIP COPY or HELP PIP , where is /AP, PR, UF, or /UP. 2 FR FREE [ddnn:]/FR Displays the amount of available space on the specified device, the largest block of contiguous space available, the number of free file headers, and the number of file headers used. SY0: is the default device. 2 FU #LI 2 ID IDENTIFICATION /ID Identifies the version of PIP being used and if PIP is linked to ANSI FCS. 2 LI LIST listfile=infile(s)/LI/subswitch Lists one or more directories with an option to specify directory listing formats. The parameters that PIP allows are: outfile - listing file specification; defaults to TI: infile(s) - default is *.*;* /LI - specifies limited report display format subswitches - one of the following: /BR (or /LI/BR) - brief display format /FU[:n] (or /LI/FU[:n]) - full report display format; n is the decimal number of characters per line, by default the device buffer size /TB (or /LI/TB) - total blocks display format 2 LD LIST DELETED FILES The /LD subswitch is used with the /DE or /PU switch to list the deleted files. For more information, type HELP PIP /DE or HELP PIP /PU. 2 ME MERGE (CONCATENATE) outfile=infiles/ME/subswitches Creates one file by concatenating two or more files. Definition of fields and subswitches are the same as for the Copy command (type HELP PIP COPY). 2 NM NO MESSAGE infile(s)/switch/NM Suppresses certain PIP error messages, for example the message NO SUCH FILE(S). The switches that can be used with the No Message switch are: /LI to list a directory /DE to delete file(s) /SD to selectively delete file(s) /PU to purge files /UN to unlock locked files and any subswitches of the above switches. 2 PROTECTION #WO 2 SYSTEM #WO 2 OWNER #WO 2 GROUP #WO 2 WORLD PROTECTION Alters file protection for the specified file. There are two formats, symbolic and numeric: Symbolic: infile/PR:symbol(s)[/FO] Numeric: infile/PR:octalvalue(s)[/FO] File name and type must be explicitly specified. Type HELP PIP /AP for more information on the /FO subswitch. Symbolic protection codes assign privilege by their presence. The default privileges for each group are as follows: System = /SY:RWED Owner = /OW:RWED Group = /GR:RWED World = /WO:RWED Numeric protection denies privilege by setting bits in a protection status word. Specification of a file version is not necessary. Wildcards are valid for the file name and type. When you specify :n, PIP deletes all but the n latest contiguous versions of a file. Without :n, PIP deletes all but the latest version of the file. The /LD subswitch lists all of the deleted files. 2 RM REMOVE infile(s)/RM Removes an entry from a directory file (the opposite of /ENTER). 2 RE RENAME outfile=infile(s)/RE[/NV] Changes the name of a file with an option to force the version number of outfile to be one greater than the latest version of the file using the /NV subswitch. The output device must be the same as the input device, explicitly or by default. The parameters that PIP allows are: outfile - wildcard or null field assumes corresponding field from infile infile - null filename.type;version defaults to *.*;* /NV - type HELP PIP COPY for more information on the New Version subswitch 2 RW REWIND outfile[/RW]=infile[/RW] With outfile, causes the specified tape unit to erase its resident tape. With infile, causes the specified tape unit to rewind its resident tape before opening the input file. 2 SD SELECTIVE DELETE infile(s)/SD Prompts for user response before deleting the specified files. The version number must be explicit or wild (*). PIP prompts you with a candidate file from the class specified in the command line. Your response choices are the letters Y, N, G, or Q, followed by either a carriage return () or a control-Z (CTRL/Z). The following table describes the effect of each combination of letter and terminator. Spanning blocks is the default PIP operation. 2 SPOOL SPOOL infile(s)/SP[:n] Specifies a list of files to be printed, where n is the number of copies. /SP applies only if you have the print spooler task or the Queue Manager installed in your system. File identification must be explicit, that is, filename.filetype;version must all be specified. 2 SUPERSEDE SUPERSEDE FILE outfile/SU=infile(s) Specifies that the output file be superseded by the input file(s). The output file will have the same file name, type, and version number, but will have a different file-ID. The output file identification must be explicit, that is, filename.type;version must all be specified. 2 TB #LI 2 TODAY #TD 2 TD TODAY DEFAULT /TD Restricts file searches to files created on the current date. To eliminate the restriction, use the Default Date switch (/DD:*:*). 2 TRUNCATE TRUNCATE infile(s)/TR Truncates the specified files to their current end-of-file mark, releasing unused storage for use by other files. 2 UF USER FILE DIRECTORY ENTRY outfile(s)/UF[/FO]=infile(s) Creates a User File Directory entry on a volume. To transfer O multiple infile UICs, specify the UIC in outfile as [*,*]. For more information on the /FO subswitch, see HELP PIP /AP. 2 UN UNLOCK infile(s)/UN Unlocks a file that was locked as a result of being closed improperly. 2 UP UPDATE FILE outfile=infile(s)/UP[/FO] Opens an existing file (infile) and writes it, from the beginning, into outfile. The parameters that PIP allows are: outfile - must be explicitly specified infile - null fields default to *.*;* /FO - see HELP PIP /AP for more information on the File Ownership subswitch infile(s) replaces contents of outfile on the volume specified. The file-ID of the output file is preserved. 2 The use of angle brackets ("<" and ">") means that the appropriate value or string is to be substituted at that point in the example command or that the specified punctuation is to be used. For example, if the description of a command reads: "Type HELP PIP " then the user is expected to type a command of the form: HELP PIP /LI where "/LI" is one of the legal switches for PIP. Type the command: HELP PIP to obtain a full list of the legal switches. 2 WILDCARDS WILDCARDS PIP also allows wildcards in file specifications to take the place of explicit specifications. The wildcard characters are as follows: * - Match one or more alphanumeric characters % - Match exactly one alphanumeric character Wildcard characters only have meaning in the filename and filetype fields of the file specification. You cannot use wildcard characters when a wildcard or null field would mean to default the field from the input file specification. You can use wildcards with date switches. Examples: *A.TMP - Match any file name that ends in A., such as A.TMP or CDA.TMP *A*.TMP - Match any file name that contains an A anywhere in the file name, such as A.TMP, AB.TMP, or CDA.TMP %A.TMP - Match any file names that have exactly two characters and end with A, such as BA.TMP
