MAIL The MAIL facility passes messages between users. A check for MAIL is made in the startup process and gives a message if mail items are found. If more than five items are found, MAIL itself is run by default. MAIL items are identified by the username for authorised users of satellite 1 and by the satellite number (SAT002, etc.) for each real-time satellite. All mail is stored in a host area accessible from all users. An arbitary limit of 20 mail items are kept for each user and/or satellite. After this limit, the mail items overwrite existing items. MAIL first performs the mail check operation and displays whether mail exists for the current user. If such mail does exist: - READS incoming mail item by item using MORE utility and prompting for ... SAVING each item read as a file. MAIL items are deleted automatically when read. - When all mail is read: . Prompts for sending mail; if NO, exits; if YES: . Prompts in turn for: - ADDRESSEE: enter ? for HELP at this stage. Note that addressees may be usernames from current list, group numbers, combinations of these or ALL for all possibilities. The list may be up to 80 characters long. - MESSAGE: enter ? for HELP at this stage. The message may be either a single line of text or a file. If text, it must be enclosed within slashs; otherwise it is treated as a file specification. The input line may be up to 80 charcaters long.
