This ascii hex file can then be transmitted from one computer to another over normal terminal transmission lines. We use the program TSTE from an earlier DECUS RT-11 SIG tape which runs under V03B and later versions of RT-11 to routinely communicate with a RSTS/E V8.0 system over both private and dial-up lines. The sister program, "TOBIN", will take the ascii hex file created by the program "TOHEX" and reconstruct the original file. Therefor, these two programs afford a method of transmitting ANY file between two computers over ascii transmission lines. The program "TOHEX" must be compiled and linked with the macro-11 program "BICB" as follows: FORTRAN TOHEX MACRO BICB LINK TOHEX,BICB While the program "TOBIN" must be compiled and linked with the MACRO-11 program "UNHEX" as follows: FORTRAN TOBIN MACRO UNHEX LINK TOHEX,BICB The FORTRAN programs on this disk were compiled under FORTRAN V02.1-1 with inline code, MACRO programs were compiled under MACRO V4.00. The programa were linked with LINK V05.04E , using a SYSLIB configured for the FIS instruction set. These programs have also been compiled on other versions of FORTRAN and MACRO and linked with other versions of LINK. The programs have been run under RT-11 on a PDP 11/10 and a 11/34 and on LSI 11, 11/02, and 11/23's, and under RSTS/E on a PDP 11/34.
