17-Sep-87 Three copies of TECO-32 are on the tape; they are identical and redundant. As you have used the half-native, half-compatibility TECO-32 already, you are no doubt familiar with the DCL symbol definitions and logical names associated with the VMS versions of TECO. These are also documented in an appendix of the DEC PDP-11 TECO manual. A note or two about this version follows. Move TECO.EXE to SYS$SYSTEM, TECOSHR.EXE to SYS$SHARE, TECOMSG.EXE to SYS$MESSAGE, and TECO.HLB to SYS$HELP. Be sure to set their file protection to W:RE. TECO and TECOMSG should ideally be INSTALLed with /OPEN/HEADER, and TECOSHR with /OPEN/HEADER/SHARED. I have used this software successfully with VMS V4.0 through V4.3. I have not tested it with V4.4/V4.5, but I anticipate no problems. As I am using it on a MicroVAX I, I cannot compare the performance of the native version to the half-native version. The fact that it works at all is gratifying. I have uncovered no problems, however. One warning: the TECO memory feature is very confused by the standard disk logical names used on MicroVMS systems, because they begin with a dollar sign (i.e. $DISK1:). This can be avoided by substituting a different logical name or the physical name for the default device via AUTHORIZE. I hope you'll find this to be helpful. I certainly have. Please go ahead and distribute it to whomever you like. Digital is not selling it; indeed, they are not officially aware that it exists. I doubt that they could object under these circumstances.
