There are a lot of books dealing with earth-sheltered dwellings, but you might
want to start with something by Malcolm Wells. Wells is an architect who's
been a leading proponent of underground and earth-sheltered structures for
probably over 2 decades. While some of his design work is a bit more involved
than many could afford, he does provide some excellent jumping-off points for
thought. Another good source for technical information is the Univ. of Minn.
itself. I don't recall the official name of the Center, but they did a huge
amount of research into underground living and building, especially in the
northern part of the country. If I recall correctly, they even built a series
of underground dwellings in Minnesota state parks, as research sites. Most
should still be open for tours.

Check out the excellent book _The Good House: Building a Life on the Land_,
by Richard Manning. Manning is a writer who built an earth-sheltered house,
and this book tells of his trials and tribulations, joys and dreams fulfilled
while doing so. Very thought-provoking, some technical information too.

And best of luck!
