Kinda new to this group but one thing that found right off was that there
is a whole lot of misinformation and lack of centeralized information.
One publication that has helped me a lot to learn more about getting off
of the pwer grid (or at least make every watt count) has been the following
magazine-

Home Power
POB 520
Ashland, Oregon 97520
916-475-3179 voice and fax
BBS 707-822-8640

These folks practice what they preach also. After finding out that the local
power company was going to charge $500K for running a line out to them, they
went solar. Currently, they make about 7kw of power daily using both wind and
solar. I should add that these folks live way up in the moutans, at the end of
20 miles of semi-bad road (thier mailbox is something like 5 miles away).

This is a worthy publication to support. The articles are an easy read and
thier diagrams clearly drawn. Subsription rates for one year are $15.00 at
2nd class, $30.00 for 1st class.

In the current issue (June/July), they talk about a little about everything
from doing a project brining solar power to remote villages in El Salvador
to how to make your own hydrogen fuel cells. There is a discussion on the
differnt types of batteries that can be used in electric cars and survey
of wind generators.
