We have started a new Internet mailing list (listserv) on energy-
efficient building design, construction and retrofit. Our intent
is to eventually establish a new Internet newsgroup.

The new list is intended for professionals. The focus is on
practical discussion of energy-related systems in homes
including;

--insulation materials and systems
--air sealing techniques
--windows, doors and other fenestration systems
--heating and cooling systems
--ventilation and indoor air quality
--water heating
--moisture control (air and vapor retarders, etc.)

Although there are no official restrictions on topic, we ask that
questions and discussion be limited to topics that would be of
interest to builders, designers, engineers, retrofit contractors
and other professionals in the construction industry.

As with all Internet mailing lists, all messages posted to the
list are automatically sent as private email to everyone who has
joined.

To join to this new mailing list, simply send an email message to
buildings-request@energy.com and include the word "join" or
"subscribe" in the message body. (It doesn't matter what the
subject field is or whether there are any other words in the
message body.)

For more information, you may contact me directly via email to
ned.nisson@energy.com.

3. Administration and contact information.
This mailing list is hosted by Energy Design Online, a commercial
online service that provides information on energy-efficient
buildings.

I monitor the system and try to keep it running smoothly. If you
have any problems, questions or suggestions, don't hesitate to
contact me by sending email to ned.nisson@energy.com.

You can also contact me directly by logging on to Energy Design
Online at (212)662-0388.

4. About Energy Design Online
I started Energy Design Online (EDO) as an electronic couterpart
to Energy Design Update, a monthly print newsletter that I edit.
Since EDO's inception in July of 1994, it has grown considerably,
both in scope, content and membership.

In addition to full text of EDU issues back to 1983, it includes
energy-related articles from several other publications including
Environmental Building News, the Journal of Light Construction,
and the Energy Source Builder, E News.

It also includes several product directories, including the
Energy Source Directory, by Iris Communications, and the Harris
database of environmentally friendly building products.

Finally, EDO now has three research abstracts databases,
including the AIRBASE database on indoor air quality, ventilation
and moisture control, the DOE/NTIS database of energy-related
research papers, and the BSRIA database of research papers from
Europe.

To access EDO, dial direct to (212)662-0388 at any speed (ANSI
or VT 100 settings, N81). Telnet access via the Internet is not
yet available.
