U. S. Bureau of Mines COST ESTIMATING SYSTEM (CES/PC) A Mining and Milling Production Costing Tool for PC Users The U. S. Bureau of Mines has developed a spreadsheet-based software system that enables users of personal computers to produce quick and reliable estimates of capital and operating costs for mining and mineral beneficiation facilities in any location in the world. The software enables the user to estimate costs based on available geographic data, spatial geometry characteristics, and engineering judgement. It provides costs for both underground and open pit mining and beneficiation. This software application is based upon the extensive Bureau of Mines Cost Estimating Handbooks (IC 9142, GPO #024-004-02195 and IC 9143, GPO #024-044-02196). These two publications can be purchased from the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) by telephone, (202) 783-3238, or by mail from the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C. 20402. It is highly recommended that these publications be used in conjunction with the CES/PC software. The cost is $57.00 for the two volume set. This application software was developed for a Lotus 1-2-3 (Lotus Development Corporation) environment. Prospective users will need to have Lotus version 2.xx or higher available in order to operate the CES/PC on their IBM-compatible personal computer. Copies of the CES/PC can be ordered by calling the National Technical Information Service at 703-487-4650, or by mail specifying the NTIS #PB88-246582 for the diskette and NTIS #PB88- 246590 for the documentation to National Technical Information Service, 5285 Port Royal Road, Springfield, Virginia 22161. The cost is $50.00 for the diskette and $14.95 for the documentation. Additional information on the CES/PC can be obtained by contacting Peter Mezzina, U.S. Bureau of Mines, Division of Resource Evaluation, 2401 E St. NW., Washington, D.C., U.S.A. 20241. The telephone number is (202) 634-1144. CESG13
