Date: Wed, 10 Feb 1993 13:33:41 GMT From: George Welling We have now opended our FTP-site at the Arts Faculty of the University of Groningen. We call it GHETA (Groningen Historical Electronic Text Archive). It is especially meant for all sorts of historians. How to reach it ? ftp tyr.let.rug.nl login as anonymous password : your email adres cd pub/gheta get the index-file, return to your own system to read that, then return to get what you want. I will try to keep the HISTORY-server informed about what we have put on. After coming to GHETA you will find three directories: datasets magazines programs e-documents The names indicate what you can find there. At the moment the whole structure is empty. But we will fill it up in the weeks to come. A number of historical-magazines that are published on a non-profit basis have agreed to put their old files in this Archive. Most of these will be Dutch magazines, but a number of them will have English articles as well. We will try to make arrangements to work together with MsState and the Kansas ftp-sites. So maybe in the near future, this structure may change. We invite everyone who has a dataset, a text or a program, that he or she wishes to make available for the whole historical community to send it to me (if possible with a documentation file), so that I can put them in the right directory. Ofcourse, you will remain owner of your stuff. Files will be stored in ZIP-format (you will need PKUNZIP to unpack these compressed files). We have not decided yet on the format for text. We will start to make them available "as they are". Later we hope to make arrangements for better access to the files. -- GHETA additions the directory /pub/gheta/magazines/VGI-Cahiers/Cahier5 contains: all the articles of VGI-Cahier 5, 1992 (Data, Computers and the Past: proceedings of the conference: Archiving and disseminating historical machine readable data, Leiden (The Netherlands), April 27-28, 1990) *.COR WordPerfect 5.1 files (DOS) *.FIG Figure files *.ASC ASCII-files *.PS PostScript files the directory /pub/gheta/magazines/groniek contains : GRONIEK.DBF Repertorium of articles published in Groniek dBase format GRONIEK.SDF Repertorium of articles published in Groniek SDF. format (ASCII) README.NL Dutch explanation file for the repertorium (ASCII) README.ENG English explanation file for the repertorium (ASCII) -- In the subdirectory /pub/gheta/programs you wil find pindbase.zip ZIP-file containing programs and databases from the book : O.W.A.Boonstra, B.J.van Helderen and F.M.M.
