[This message has been posted to Gaelic-L, Welsh-L, Celtic-L, and Irish-Studies. Please excuse duplicate copies.] I am interested in forming an association in North America for Celtic language teachers and applied linguistic researchers. It is my hope that such an organization would increase communication between Celtic language teachers in North America, increase the number of papers on Celtic language learning given at conferences of organizations such as ACIS, AAAL, and IRAAL, and increase the amount of articles in refereed journals and other publications on this topic. The association itself may start out by having a conference every two years and producing a journal of its own. I believe these two activities would help in the attainment of the above goals. At this point I would like to form a 'founding committee' of those who have taught a Celtic language and those who have carried out research in this area. The amount of work to be devoted to this task would be minimal, with founding committee members providing direction for the setup process. Nancy Stenson of the University of Minnesota and Dennis Doyle of Glendale Community College (California) have already volunteered. A few more volunteers are needed from both the United States and Canada. If interested, please write me at the address below.
