This year Cymdeithas Madog (The North American Welsh Studies Institute) brings its annual summer Welsh course, Cwrs Cymraeg, to the Baltimore area. The course will be held at Towson State University in Towson, Maryland, from Sunday, July 24th, through Sunday, July 31st. Cwrs Cymraeg is an intensive, residential Welsh course emphasizing the modern spoken language. It offers classes for all levels, from complete beginners up to quite advanced learners. There are approximately five hours of formal classroom language instruction per day, in the morning and early afternoon, followed by numerous language- related activities throughout the afternoon. In the evenings a wide variety of cultural events will be provided, including singing, folkdancing, games in Welsh, visits to nearby historical sites, and the chance to view recent Welsh- language films. (Last summer, for example, we gave _Hedd Wyn_ its North American premiere, long before the Academy Awards committee had ever heard of it!) Cwrs Cymraeg is a golden opportunity for those of you this side of the Atlantic who are studying Welsh on your own. You can immerse yourself in a Welsh-speaking atmosphere, become familiar with different aspects of contem- porary Welsh culture, mingle with other Welsh learners, converse with native- speakers, and ask all those things you always wanted to know about Welsh but couldn't find anyone to ask. Fees for the course are as follows: Resident adult $470 (i.e. if staying on campus) Resident student $420 Commuter $390 Tag-along $370 These rates include instruction and all regular course activities, as well as food and (for residents) lodging.
