After trying some of the abridged and annotated books put out by Gomer, I highly recommend the recent novels and short stories by Mihangel Morgan. These are not only exciting and fascinating (sort of magical realism), but they are written in a very "neutral" style, with short and simple sentences. By this I mean they use forms never far from those to be found in the usual dictionaries and grammars. I don't mean that they lack in literary quality (the very opposite, in fact; Mihangel Morgan has been called the Italo Calvino of Welsh literature). This means that they are very accessible to learners. None of them are very long either, and thus they give the satisfaction of having completed a novel or a story on the cutting edge of Welsh literature today. There is one novel: Dirgel Ddyn and two collections of stories Hen Lwybr a storiau eraill Saith Pechod Marwol The two first are put out by Gomer, and the last by Y Lolfa. I'm afraid I don't have any more details. Johan S.
