(mag)" (Apr 8, 7:27pm) Dear Jan: Regarding your research on Jewish and Welsh speech patterns, I refer you to the brilliant doctoral dissertation by Orin Gensler at Berkeley, just filed last year. He has done extensive research on the typological similarities between Welsh and semitic (mostly ancient Hebrew). It's been years in the making and it will be an important book. Even though you say you are more interested in in the sociological p.o.v., you shouldn't give this a miss. I'm looking for it now in my office, and it's obviously buried under something, much to my aggravation. I can't remember the title, but it's a TYPOLOGICAL examination-- an area in historical linguistics that has received scant attention. Yours, Sarah Higley Associate Professor U. of Rochester slhi@troi.cc.rochester.edu
