In reply to the statement that ym letter may have been "racist" in some way I take exceptional offence, especialy as the aim of saying that the english are far more celtic than they would like to admit was I believe an anti racist statement The english are not just geneticaly celtic, the langauge has many celtic words withen it either taken from Brythonic, Gaelic or Gaul via the French language. A lot of english culture and practices are not anglo saxon but celtic, in fact the current argument of some historians is that it is the anglo-saxon culture that has beeen lost in Britain not the celtic one. Finaly I do believe that your genes do efect the behaviour or perhaps abilities of a race or ethnic group as you must have differences in genes to be able to identify groupings specific to certain races and differences mean people do act differently, etc.... obviously culture plays a far larger role. But to call this view racist is not only neive but a little silly as you are grouping apeople who believe in acertain scientific argument which has been raging since the discovery of the gene with another group of people who pick on, abuse and murder others because of racial differences. In fact what I have just said is not racist as I have not said to be celtic is better than being Franc, or Chinease, etc.... all I am saying is that genes do obvoiusly influance who we are, and if ethnic groups have certain common genes then this influaces who they are, it doesnt make them better or worse just different. I hope that will clear up a statement which infact was supposed to in some way limit racism, especialy against the english rather than to start throwing accusations around made with little thought. gwella chons, Tim Kent.
