I'd like to add an appendix to my Welsh course that describes some of the history of the Welsh language, and I'm looking for a volunteer more knowledgeable than I to write it. I'd like it to have the title: History and Status of the Welsh Language with the following sections: 1. What is Welsh? Should answer the questions: Isn't Welsh just a dialect of English? Where is Wales? So what exactly is Wales? A country? A district? 2. The History of Welsh Should answer the questions: How old is Welsh? Where did it come from? To what other languages is it related? Can Welsh speakers understand Gaelic? 3. The Current and Future Status of Welsh Should answer the questions: Is Welsh a dying language? How many people speak Welsh? As a first language? As their only language? Where do most Welsh speakers live? What is being done to preserve the language (i.e. over the last 20 years or so)? Do people think such an appendix would make a good addition to the course? Any volunteers to write it? (Please don't volunteer by sending a finished volume on the subject, because I don't want to receive several and then have people feel badly that I didn't pick theirs after all the work they put into writing it.) If I receive multiple volunteers, I will pick one person to write the appendix and then pass the results by the others for comments. Thanks again! --Mark
