( Do you know why the cockerel on Kellogg's (or is it Kelloggs') Corn Flakes ) is in red and green ? ( According to letter in Wednesday's The Independent (UK), its because ) the name Kellogg is probably from "ceiliog", Welsh for cockerel, ( and the red and green is (for) the ("Ddraig Goch") Red Dragon of Wales. ) The letter said this came about as result of meeting between ( Dr John Harvy Kellogg and the famous Welsh harpist Nancy Richards. ) ( Does anyone know if this is correct. She used to tell the story in a way that suggested to me that it was just a joke made up from the observation that it should have been that way round. I believe that she met Kellogg, and that they talked about ceiliogod, but... She had a lot to say about touring the United States -- and I think there was a story about Horlicks being named for Harlech -- so I tentatively suggest that the writer of the letter has got a firm grip on the wrong end of a jester's stick. On the other hand, sometimes even comedians tell the truth. There was a centre double page spread in Y Cymro a couple of years ago tracing the family of the then Mayor Ed Coch (Koch) back to his Welsh ancestors too. It was 1st April, but I forget which year. Mae gen i frith gof o glywed (mewn recordiad ddarlledwyd ar ol ei farw) y diweddar Bob Lloyd, Llwyd o'r Bryn, yn son Horlicks hefyd. Ydw i wedi drysu rhwng y ddau, tybed? g
