I'm hoping that someone on Welsh-l can tell me whether there is a standard way of spelling the Cornish dialect. I'm living in Hawaii at the moment, and there is definitely a way and a way not to spell pidgin here, or at least they are trying to standardize it. I was born in Cornwall and have a good memory of the sound of Cornish speech, but I am writing a novel whose heroine has a strong Cornish accent. I want to get across the sound of it as much as I can on the page. I've been writing "I" as "oy" but that doesn't really do it as there's more of an "a" in there as well. Anyone know the answer? Thanks. Gabrielle (welford@uhunix.uhcc.hawaii.edu)
