We care about the old codesets, Walt, because those of us who have been around computers a while know that every time a new system or any piece of software comes in, along with the gains there are usually losses. We all know ISO10646 is not just another software package, but a whole new international standard, an environment outside of which life may not be very pleasant, so it has to be beta-tested right now, before it becomes a thing set in stone. Remember, it was the foresight and goodwill of Dr Johan van Wingen, who voted against the draft of ISO10646 which did not include provision for Welsh characters, which made a lot of people stop and listen--people who weren't aware the Welsh language had been one of those sacrificed to the graven image of 8859! If you suspect UNICODE is missing something (an oversight, as you mention above), try to find out if that is, indeed the case. There's no shame in being wrong. Regret at not having done something good is as bad as having done something wrong. Mind you, I'm not volunteering to search UNICODE tables for middle-dot! Marion Gunn MGUNN@IRLEARN.UCD.IE
