The world of Celtic studies is STARVING for a user friendly version of D. Simon Evans, one that is organized with a reader, for instances. Actually, I was thinking more in terms of a book that would appeal TO university students, but even so, it needs to be a lot more accessible than _A Grammar of Middle Welsh_, my old standby. Look what Diamond did with his Grammar and Reader of Old English? He pared the grammar down to its essentials and offered readings and translations of selected texts. There would always be the Evans to fall back on for more advanced students, but new students need something less formidable. Granted, Middle Welsh is more complicated than Old English, but the Diamond is a worthy example of a btext for a beginner. Sarah H.
