Stephanie : The Ll is a voiceless lateral fricative (technically speaking). You make it by placing the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth just behind the incisors, and blowing around the tongue--without your voicebox turned on. We have this sound in some dialects of English. It occurs in words that begin with 'pl' (plant, plow, Placerville) IN BETWEEN the 'p' and the 'l'. Listen for it. +john ward ---- ___ ------------------- | IC | XP XPICTOC John D. Ward |----+----| ANECTH UCD Medical Center Library NI | KA EK NEKPON (916) 734-3529 _|_ jdward@ucdavis.edu
