>Welsh learners in North America might find some profit in Ninnau, the >monthly paper for Welsh Americans. Most of it is social-local, but every >month there is a good page which has (a) a short lesson on a grammatical >point, with a set of sentences to illustrate (up to number 39 now): (b) >"Ways of Welsh" (Teithi'r Iaith) -- on some linguistic or historical point, >very ably done by an expert, Robert A. Fowkes: (c) a Welsh-English >crossword. Ninnau address is 11 Post Terrace, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920, and >it costs fifteen dollars a year. But even if you don't subscribe, get >your library to do so. The paper also has advertisements for tapes. >When I read the occasional queries about pronunciation on this screen, it >strikes me that only an expert phonetician can learn sounds from letters, >and most people would find a tape a more profitable investment. > I have to agree. Speaking as a native Welsh speaker who has only seen 1 copy of Ninnau, I found it extremely interesting and, I must admit, useful. If any native Welsh speakers such as myself are interested, I may as well post the address of the shop where I bought my copy: Oriel Heol Ty'r Brodyr / ?Friary Road Caerdydd I can't remember the post code offhand, but that should be enough for snail mail. Oh, they also stock Y Drych, another N.American paper, I think, which I also found worthwhile. Pob hwyl, Huw Huw Garan (NJ152@uk.ac.lamp.vms)
