Does anyone have any better information on this, first-hand knowledge perhaps? It would be nice to see a summary of its status. Manx died in 1974, I belive. I've seen different dates for the last Cornish speaker, but I think s/he died in 1798. I remember seeing a photo in a book of the grave of this person, the last native speaker of a language. Quite a feeling it gave me. I have heard of several clubs, societies, where people gather to speak Cornish. I think it is quite interesting, people getting together to speak a dead language. Let's hope that no other Celtic language comes to this. Tom McClive tommcc@gibbs.oit.unc.edu (my editor is acting quite strange, sorry if parts of this message are juxtaposed oddly)
