I'm uploading to the GAELIC-L archives two TrueType versions of Colum Twomey's font Tuamach. This font was originally released by Colum as GAELACH, and rereleased with corrections by me in October 1993. At that time the corrections consisted of putting the existing vowels in the right places, and adding a vowel for Scottish Gaelic. This release of Tuamach now contains all of the characters in the Macintosh Celtic Extended Roman character set. (That means all vowels with acute, grave, circumflex, and diaeresis, and all the dotted Irish consonants plus long r and long s.) (All vowels means Welsh vowels, of course.) There are irregularities in the font which I have not corrected, as it's Colum's font after all. Characters printed at large point sizes will show these irregularities quite markedly, but for ordinary use the font is quite serviceable. Plus it's free and now in a standard encoding. Three fully-polished Gaelic script fonts are available from Everson Gunn Teoranta in Macintosh and Windows formats: Doire, based on the Irish typewriters; Ceanannas, based on the Book of Kells; and Duibhlinn, the standard Irish book face. The package of three costs just IEP100.00; if you're interested, please contact me directly.
