Hello. I have just subscribed to Welsh-L. I am currently writing about the loss of Welsh in my family. This is a post-doctoral research project, my previous work has been on language change, literacy, politics and identity amongst Kriol-speakers in the NT of Australia. (This is to be published next year.) I am interested in several theoretical issues such as the representation of the Other in ethnographic text (hence a work about me/us), in colonization, in language loss and maintenance, in ethnography as fiction and in linguistic ecology. I am also, to my suprise (I hadn't bargained on this when I started) wanting to resurrect my Welsh. (I stopped speaking at age 3.) I should like to be in contact with people who share any/all these interests. I live in the most isolated city in the world (Perth, Australia) but shall be based in Cardiff in July and early August. Advice, encouragement and crazy words of wisdom would be much appreciated. Diolch yn fawr. Mari Rhydwen
