>Ensuring that 'Wales' and 'Scotland' appear on postal addresses is not to help >the Post Office deliver the letter (as i've pointed out already, all the PO > actually >requires for domestic post is the post code and the house number) so details >about PO sorting procedures are not germane. What it is all about is the public >affirmation, in the face of official and public ignorance, of the continued >existence within the UK of countries other than England. > On a related theme, I've just returned froma visit to the US where before going through passport control I had to fill in a form stating from which country I had travelled and my country of citizenship. I was told that I had to enter UK for both of these, and that neither Wales, England or Great Britain would be acceptable (despite the fact that I live in Wales, boarded the plane in England and am a British citizen). If the UK is termed a country in this way it hardly suprising that people have problems understanding that Wales is a country in it's own right.
