( 1. Use of mae/ydy/oes ) I'm still troubled by these forms of _bod_: ... ( E.g. "Someone's coming." > "Is someone coming?" ) Affirmative: Mae rhywun yn dod. [Correct?] ( Question: a. Oes rhywun yn dod? [? oes with indef. subj., but with yn + VN?] ) b. Oes rhywun sy'n dod? [Better than a.? "Is there someone who's ( coming?] ) c. Ydy rhywun yn dod? [??Like: Ydy Sion yn dod? Indefinite ( subject?] ) Which is the correct/better construction? From the grammars I haven't got a ( clear answer to this yet. b. seems to be OK, but this isn't quite the ) same as the English sentence above. Fe glywch chi a. ac c. fel ei gilydd. "Oes rhywun yn dod?" sydd debycaf am "is (there) someone coming?", sydd fel arfer yn cyfleu ystyr "is (there) /anyone/ coming?". Mi fyddai "ydy" yn rhoi ar "rhywun" arlliw o "some(specific)one" yn hytrach nag "any(arbitrary)one", felly mi fyddech yn gofyn c. pe baech yn gofyn, er engraifft, a oedd rhywun o bwys i'r achos yn dod -- is there someone coming of whose presence I need to be aware (I am doing something nefarious and want to know whether I need to stop). ( 2. I've recently come across the form _dwn i ddim_ 'I don't know' on this ) list. Is this a correct form? It is a contraction of "Nid wn i ddim" and is as correct as contractions like "dwi" (or do I mean "dw i") for "rydw i" or "yr ydw i". g
