Gitlin is professor of Sociology and Communications at NYU and the author of "The Sixties: Years of Hope, Days of Rage," (Bantam 1987). "Reassessing the Sixties: Debating the Political and Cultural Legacy," edited by Stepehn Macedo, published by W.W. Norton. Harvey Mansfield, the author of the essay "The Legacy of the Late Sixties," was interviewed for this segment. August 13, 1998: Talk of The Nation: "Dereliction of Duty," by Major H.R. McMaster, published by Harper Perennial. "Flawed Giant: Lyndon Johnson and His Times," by Robert Dalleck, published by Oxford University Press. Dalleck is also the author of "Lone Star Rising," (Oxford 1996) a biography of Lyndon Johnson. August 13, 1998: All Thing Considered: Linda Wertheimer talked with the author. "Split: A Counterculture Childhood," by Lisa Michaels, published by Houghton Mifflin. August 14, 1998: Morning Edition: Bob Edwards talked with the author of a book about the benefits and drawbacks of global market integration. "The Commanding Heights: The Battle Between Government and the Marketplace that is Remaking the Modern World," by Daniel Yergin, published by Simon & Schuster. August 14, 1998: All Thing Considered: An Alan Cheuse Review: "I Can't Wait On God," by Albert French, published by Anchor Books. Cheuse found this novel set in 1940s Pittsburgh enlivened by the author's language. August 16, 1998: Weekend Edition: Scott Simon spoke with the author of a book about pop culture in America. "Red Lobster, White Trash, and the Blue Lagoon," by Joe Queenan, published by **. Books profiled on Fresh Air with host Terry Gross: August 10, 1998: "Azim's Bardo: A Father's Journey from Murder to Forgiveness," by Azim Khamisa, published by Rising Star Press. August 11, 1998: "Bruculinu, America: Remembrances of Sicilian-American Brooklyn, Told in Stories and Recipes," by Vincent Schiavelli, published by Houghton Mifflin. "Splendid Slippers: A Thousand Years of An Erotic Tradition," by Beverley Jackson, published by Ten Speed Press. Jackson is a collector of antique Chinese slippers and talked about the history, culture, and implications of bound feet. August 13, 1998: "The Couple Who Became Each Other and Other Tales of Healing from a Hypnotherapist's Casebook," by David Calof, published by Bantam Books. Calof is a hypnotherapist who for twenty years has used hypnosis to help his clients uncover their own subconscious. "Boxing," by Larry Fink, with an essay by Bert Sugar, published by Powerhouse Books. Larry Fink is a photographer and Bert Sugar has served as senior vice-president of "The Ring" magazine Fresh Air Weekend, August 15-16, 1998: "Bruculinu, America: Remembrances of Sicilian-American Brooklyn, Told in Stories and Recipes," by Vincent Schiavelli, published by Houghton Mifflin. "Just Checking: Scenes From the Life of an Obsessive-Compulsive," by Emily Colas, published by Penguin-Pocket Books. Emily Colas first book is a memoir of her life as an obsessive-compulsive.
