DISCLAIMER: I do not work for National Public Radio. I am an announcer and operations person for 91.5FM/WUNC, an NPR/APR affiliate associated with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. All information provided here comes from WUNC and is copyright by WUNCRADIO. The copyright notice is located at the bottom of each booklist. All booklists are indexed in a date format similar to NPR. YY.MM.DD-DD and in the case where two months overlap YY.MM.DD-MM.DD. This helps in sorting. WHY A BOOKLIST AND HOW? The NPR Booklist was created in May 1993 by the staff of WUNC Radio as a way to help local bookstores get needed information about books they heard discussed on the station. Gradually more bookstores were added onto the mailing list as well as libraries. In Fall 1993, the list started getting posted on a listserver for public radio affiliates. In January 1994, it went world-wide, being posted on several USENET groups including rec.arts.books, alt.radio.networks.npr and triangle general. Now it is being made available via anonymous ftp. All booklists from June 1993 - Present are now available. Until January 17, 1994, WUNC did not carry Fresh Air so books from that program are not listed. There is now a searcher available to look for book titles, authors, and reviewers. I hope this helps. WHO DO I CONTACT FOR DETAILS? Erika Grams is the compiler of the list and maintainer of the archives. She can be emailed at erika@email.unc.edu, erika@sunsite.unc.edu, or grams.wuncfm@mhs.unc.edu. Rarely is anything provided in advance. Once a week the compiler reads through the rundowns, writes down book titles and authors, then researches publishers to present what you see here. Details are provided courtesy of McIntyre's Books in Fearrington Village, North Carolina and by the staff of Audience Services, NPR, especially Allen Stone. The booklist is limited to those programs carried by WUNC Radio: Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Weekend Edition Saturday and Sunday, Fresh Air, Soundings, and The People's Pharmacy. Occasionally we will include works cited on Whad'Ya Know and by various local commentators. Other shows cannot yet be included because of lack of access. It is possible Performance Today will be added even though the show is not carried by WUNC. Please email Erika Grams with any comments, criticisms, suggestions, or simple ego-boosting messages and support your local public radio station at fund-raising time. Thank you.
