VARIOUS TOPICS: Talking Points - 9/29/92 Putting People First ... for a change: CLINTON-GORE '92 National Talking Points Tuesday, September 29, 1992 Five weeks... It's time for Bush to come clean and tell the American people how he helped Saddam Hussein build nuclear, chemical and biological weapons before the Persian Gulf War. Clearly, by sending aid to Saddam, Bush created the very monster that he then asked Americans to confront on the battlefield. * Bush sent billions of dollars in US taxpayer-subsidized loan guarantees to Saddam Hussein--who used them to build up his military machine. * Bush allowed Iraq to buy advanced American technology--many with potential nuclear applications-- that helped the dictator build nuclear, chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction. * Right up to the Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, Bush blocked efforts in Congress to get tough with Saddam by imposing sanctions. George Bush refuses to level with the American people. What did he know and when did he know it? He was not "out of the loop" in the dirty dealings with a brutal dictator. The memos of the most senior Administration officials contradict his claim. Come clean, George, come clean. George Bush sent loan guarantees to an oil rich dictator. George Bush sold dangerous technology to a criminal who was intent on developing and using lethal weapons. George Bush refused to face the truth or hear the urgent warnings coming from his own men. And then, he put American lives on the line in a war that never would have happened except for his mistakes. Come clean, George, come clean. Since coddling tyrants is a hallmark of Bush's foreign policy, we need a commander in chief who believes that the enemies of freedom are enemies of our country. Bill Clinton is that man. Clinton will be in Louisville, KY, today, but he will not be debating George Bush about jobs and the economy. But he will be asking Bush about his administration's programs which moved thousands of American jobs to Central America and the Caribbean. BUSH JOBS PLAN: A division of the US State Dept. under James Baker (Agency for International Dev.) uses taxpayers' money to lobby and lure American firms to shut down, lay off their employees, move to Central America and take advantage of U.S. tax laws that subsidize the move. CLINTON PLAN: would end tax money for such moves and create incentives for American companies to hire the best educated, best trained, and best motivated workers in the world. Bush gives them tax money to export American jobs. Clinton-Gore will give them incentives to export U.S. products. BE CREATIVE, MAKE NEWS: DC held Larry King watch parties with former Perot backers who are now on board with Clinton/Gore (our message is the same with or without Perot in the race). Chicago's "Chicken George" held a press conference in front of Wrigley Tower and interviewed with NPR. SCHEDULE: Clinton is in Louisville and Columbus today, Gore in Washington DC.
