VARIOUS TOPICS: Talking Points - 9/30/92 CLINTON-GORE '92: Putting People First...for a change National Talking Points Wednesday, September 30, 1992 Bush admitted the weakness of his position and caved in on the debates at the last minute -- just like he caved in nearly fifty days before the election when he tried to say he had an economic program. Another transparent ploy from a confused White House campaign. Bill Clinton wants to debate Bush's dismal economic record and outline for America the Clinton-Gore plan for economic growth. Clinton is open to the Commission's dates of October 4 and 15th, but Bush has previously refused to sit down with the Commission. It's up to Bush. "Nightline" showed how Bush has misused our tax dollars to help export American jobs overseas. The Agency for International Dev. has used taxpayers' money to subsidize U.S. businesses that close down shop here in America and move to Central America to exploit workers at $0.57 an hour. The advertising budget, business loans, and tax write offs from the government program have all been subsidized by U.S. taxpayers. The companies that have used U.S. tax dollars to move overseas have been involved in 65 plant closings and the loss of almost 15,000 jobs across the U.S., most of them in the apparel or electronics industries in the Southern Appalachian highlands and industrial states. When American companies are struggling to compete, when American workers are struggling to keep their paychecks, Bush is using our tax dollars to sell us out at home. (And news footage now shows the Bush-Quayle campaign prints millions of dollars of campaign material in Brazil.) We don't need a national economic sell out. We need a national economic strategy: the Clinton-Gore plan to put people first. Clinton-Gore continue to pick up the support of business leaders. Many are impressed with their plans for small business. Bush has created three bankruptcies for every new job. Clinton-Gore have a plan to encourage more start ups, more investment, and more growth. Consumer confidence is at its lowest level in five presidential administrations. The dollar is down. Unemployment numbers out Friday may not look good for Bush. The Wall Street Journal today continues to pull back the curtains of secrecy at the White House and documents Bush's connections to the CIA and the Iran-Contra cover up. Bill Clinton spoke at an amazing rally at Ohio State University in Columbus yesterday. If you want to know how the campaigns are doing, compare Clinton's upbeat, exciting rally with Bush's tired train trip through safe GOP territory in Ohio. BE CREATIVE, MAKE NEWS: "Chicken George" will continue to pluck at Bush for his dismal economic record, lack of vision, and absence of direction. The next "Chicken George" could be the guy with a bag over his head in Ohio. The bag reads: "Bush Economic Advisor." Pull out the pink slips again! Let's let George know he's soon out of a job. SCHEDULE: Clinton in MD, NJ, WI, Gore in CT, OH. Both in WI tomorrow. Authorized by Clinton/Gore '92 Committee, Box 615, Little Rock, AR 72203.
