THE ECONOMY: Talking Points - 10/9/92 Clinton-Gore '92: New Generation of Leaders National Talking Points Friday, October 9 While Bush takes the low political road, Bill Clinton takes the economic high ground. Bush can't debate his economic record, so he reverts to desperate political ploys and drags out old scapegoats and silly distractions to try and fool the American people one more time. Bush promised a "kinder, gentler" America then gave us the worst economy in 50 years. Bush promised us 30 million new jobs then used our tax money to ship American jobs overseas. Bush said "Read My Lips" then signed the second biggest tax increase in history. Bush promised to be the "Education" President then tried to cut student loans and head start. The "Environmental" President has reversed every major environmental stance he once took. The more he goes down in the polls, the more Bush changes what he stands for. The only thing Bush really stands for is his own reelection. * * * Our economy is weak because we need to change course. Yesterday, 556 economists, including 9 Nobel Prize Winners, stepped forward to back the Clinton-Gore National Economic Strategy. Clinton and Gore reject the old tax and spend politics, proposing instead a plan to invest in people, create new jobs, all while outlining $140 billion in spending cuts they'd make right now. Perot's own chief economic advisor, John White, now backs the Clinton's plan as "the essential combination of economic growth, good jobs, and long term fiscal strength, an excellent economic plan to provide the long term deficit reduction that will be necessary to return America to a sound footing." Media can reach White at 617- 495-9479 or 617-864-1200. Clinton and Gore are a new generation of leaders who have called for an end of welfare as we know it, so welfare can be a second chance, not a way of life. According to a Bipartisan Panel, the Clinton-Gore plan controls health care costs. Bush's plan does not. The Panel said the C/G plan will save us $750 billion by the year 2000. But Bush's plan, would save only $150 billion because he won't take on the drug companies or the bloated bureaucracies. Unlike the members of the Bush administration, Bill Clinton didn't get into public service for money. As Governor, he makes only, $35,000 a year, and since becoming Governor in 1979, he has never had a raise, making his salary the lowest of any Governor in America. Unlike Bush and Quayle, Bill Clinton was no trust fund baby. His father died before he was born. His mother worked while he was raised by his grandparents in a small town. And after school, he didn't go to Wall Street to make a fortune; he returned to Arkansas to help the people he knew at home. That's why Bush is for the privileged few and why Clinton puts people first. Voter registration is reaching historic levels. In Michigan, for instance, Detroit is breaking all previous highs, and new registrants are 6-1 Democratic in traditionally Republican suburbs. New Democrats in critical states!
