RUNNING MATE: Statement - 10/13/92 For Immediate Release: October 13, 1992 Statement by Governor Bill Clinton Choosing a running mate is the first major decision that a future president makes. If the American people were to vote on the basis of that decision alone, the Clinton-Gore ticket would win a landslide. Tonight, Al Gore made it clear that he has the character, judgement and vision to step into the Oval Office should, heaven forbid, something happen to me. Al Gore said it all in the first minutes: A Clinton-Gore Administration will not take four years to discover America. Indeed, in the first 100 days, we plan to change America. We plan to offer the country an end to trickle-down economics, a real jobs program, a bold lifelong learning agenda and a truly comprehensive plan to offer health care with real cost controls to all Americans. I'm proud of Al Gore. And tonight all America knows why. In January, Al Gore will be a Vice President America can be proud of. -30-30-30-
