A poll conducted on behalf of the Massachusetts Hospital Association showed that 62% of those polled said they support the passage of the President's plan. Pollster John Marttila, quoted by AP said: "These results clearly show that the president's health care proposal appeals to the people of Massachusetts on a fundamental level, one that goes beyond the normal considerations of cost and quality. The idea that everyone has a basic right to health care benefits, a right that exists regardless of a person's income or employment status, is a basic value shared by the vast majority of the state." * Speaking yesterday at Georgetown University Medical Center, the President clearly articulated the need for health care...particularly for the AIDS community. He said: "I think the best thing we can do for people who are living with HIV and living with AIDS is to pass a comprehensive health care plan so that people do not lose their benefits. That is important." * The board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians has voted unanimously to support President Clinton's Health Security Act. In their release sent out yesterday, Dr. William Coleman of the AAFP said: "We see the Clinton program as the best of the plans offered so far. We believe it is taking the nation in the right direction." * First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton will be in Hanover and Manchester, New Hampshire today. In Hanover, Mrs. Clinton will participate in the Tri-State Rural Health Care Forum at Dartmouth College. The forum will be moderated by former Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop and will be attended by health care professionals from the Tri-State area. Following the forum, Mrs. Clinton will address Dartmouth students and faculty and will travel to Manchester, New Hampshire and visit the Manchester Community Health Services Center. * On Friday, President Clinton will visit the El Pueblo Health Services Clinic in Bernalillo, New Mexico. The clinic serves a population which accurately represents the problems of rural health care today --- inadequate care, lack of coverage, lack of access to care and shortages of doctors.
