THE FOLLOWING IS ONE IN A SERIES OF BRIEFINGS FROM THE WHITE HOUSE TO ITS OFFICIALS AND OTHER SUPPORTERS OF ITS HEALTH-REFORM PACKAGE. IT PROVIDES AN INSIDE GLIMPSE OF THE ADMINISTRATION'S STRATEGY. Health Care Reform Today 10-6-93 The White House October 6, 1993 * As alternatives to the President's plan are introduced, we want you to ask the following questions: 1. Does it guarantee that you will always have health coverage? 2. Does it guarantee that no matter who you work for, where you work or where you live, that you will have health care coverage? 3. Does it guarantee that if you get sick, or anyone in your family gets sick, will they have health coverage? 4. Does it guarantee that you will have a comprehensive package of benefits that amount to good, decent health care coverage? 5. Does it make sure that the health care system is simplified, getting rid of paperwork and that it cuts through red tape? 6. Does it give you a choice as to which doctor you see and the hospital you use and who can provide your health care? 7. Does it guarantee quality? 8. Does it make sure that you know more about what works and then works to make it more available to everyone? 9. Does it help you save money in the system you currently use? 10. Does it begin to weed out waste, fraud and abuse that you know is there? 11. Does it make everyone responsible? 12. Does it eliminate the free ride that too many people have so that when they show up to get health care, you pay the bill? * There are the tough questions that will have to be asked in the days to come. Remember, Republicans and Democrats alike agree: We have to have health security for all Americans. And, we will not compromise on these six, simple principles: Security, Simplicity, Savings, Responsibility, Quality and Choice.
