0704 Summary of Vancouver Summit Assistance Package To: National and Foreign Desks Contact: White House Office of the Press Secretary, 202-456-2100 WASHINGTON, April 4 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Following is a summary of U.S. assistance package announced at the summit meeting in Vancouver, B.C.; projects announced, expanded or obligated after Jan. 20, 1993; and detailed breakout of assistance initiatives: Total Value of Package $1.6 billion for 1993; includes $690 million in grant assistance, $700 million in concessional food sales and $230 million in other credits. 1) Humanitarian Food and Medical Assistance -- $194 million in grant food; $30 million in grant medical 2) Concessional Food Sales -- $700 million - concessional terms; interim measure to restor Russian access to U.S. grains. 3) Private Sector Support -- Russian-American Enterprise Fund - $50 million -- Privatization support - $95 million -- Eurasia Foundation - $4 million 4) Democratization -- Democracy Corps -- Other programs to support democratization such as rule of law and exchanges. Total: $48 million. 5) Russian Officer Resettlement -- Demonstration Program to construct 450 housing units over next 12-16 months and provide job training for military officers. Total: $6 million 6) Energy and Environment -- Projects to enhance energy production efficiency and reduce pollution of pipeline systems.
