THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary For Immediate Release December 1, 1993 Statement by the Press Secretary The President met today with Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt in the Oval Office. During the meeting, the President welcomed the convergence of U.S. and Swedish foreign policies since the Cold War's end and applauded Sweden's decision to move toward integration in the European Community and the transatlantic community. The President also expressed appreciation for Sweden's energetic leadership of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE), its contributions to regional stability and its participation in international peacekeeping effort, including in the former Yugoslavia. The two leaders also discussed their common commitment to promoting democracy and human rights and to a liberalization of international trade. After the meeting, the President and Prime Minister Bildt took part in a tea hosted by the First Lady in honor of this year's American Nobel Laureates. # # #
