THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Vice President ________________________________________________________________________ For Immediate Release April 19, 1994 VICE PRESIDENT GORE TO ADDRESS THE WHITE HOUSE CONFERENCE ON CLIMATE ACTION George Washington University Campus; Thursday, April 21, 1994, 9:00 AM On the eve of Earth Day, Vice President Al Gore will address the White House Conference on Climate Action at George Washington University. The event on Thursday, April 21, 1994 at 9:00 AM is open press. The 1994 White House Conference on Climate Action marks a significant milestone for the Climate Change Action Plan. The 600+ Conference participants include CEOs from businesses participating in the Plan, state and local environmental officials, representatives from the environmental community, Congressional staff, international delegates, academia, and federal employees. In October of last year, the President introduced his Climate Change Action Plan -- a comprehensive national strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by the year 2000. The Plan utilizes over 40 actions that rely on partnerships to create jobs, bolster the economy, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful air pollution. Following the Vice President's address, Secretary Hazel O'Leary (DOE), Administrator Carol Browner (EPA) and Deputy Secretary Richard Rominger (USDA) will conduct a "Showcasing Partnerships" ceremony. At the ceremony they will recognize outstanding contributions from existing participants and acknowledge newly signed partners. A Conference publication will describe the objective, approach, current status, and upcoming milestones for every action in the Plan.
