THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary ________________________________________________________________________ For Immediate Release August 10, 1994 PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES PHILLIPS TO KOREAN WAR ADVISORY BOARD President Clinton today announced his intention to appoint John C. Phillips of the District of Columbia to be a member of the Korean War Veterans Memorial Advisory Board. Mr. Phillips is the acting chief of staff of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, where he usually serves as an administrative law judge. He served with the U.S. Army Seventh Infantry Division, 31st Infantry Regiment and fought in the battle of Pork Chop Hill during the Korean War. As a result, he earned the Korean service Medal with one Bronze Service Star and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. For six months during 1993, Mr. Phillips was detailed to the Office of Presidential Personnel. The Korean War Veterans Memorial Advisory Board is responsible for recommending a site and selecting a design for a memorial to honor members of the Armed Forces of the United States who served in the Korean War, particularly those who were killed in action, are still listed as missing in action, or who were held as prisoners of war. The Board is also responsible for encouraging the donation of private funds for the construction and maintenance of the memorial. -30-30-30-
