WILLIAMS-BRIDGERS TO BE INSPECTOR GENERAL FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE President Clinton today announced his intention to nominate Jacquelyn L. Williams-Bridgers to be Inspector General for the Department of State. The Inspector General for the Department of State directs and conducts inspections, investigations and audits of State Department offices and bureaus. The Office of Inspector General provides an independent and systematic assessment of how effectively foreign policy is being implemented, including a review of all activities and operations. The Inspector General also provides coordination and leadership for inquiries into allegations of fraud and abuse. Jacquelyn L. Williams-Bridgers has more than sixteen years of experience at the General Accounting Office and the Office of Inspector General for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. At the General Accounting Office, Ms. Williams-Bridgers directed the design and reporting strategies for GAO evaluations of HUD's public housing programs and conceived and implemented a strategic plan for delivery of over 30 highway and bridge evaluations/analyses. She also was involved with Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations, having provided testimony at more than 15 Congressional hearings. While with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Ms. Williams-Bridgers designed, implemented and reported on evaluations of HUD's grantee accountability monitoring systems. She has received the Arthur S. Fleming Award and the General Accounting Office Meritorious Service Award in recognition of her skills and accomplishments. Ms. Williams-Bridgers received a B.A. and a Masters in Public Administration from Syracuse University. -30-30-30-
